The University of Waikato was opened in 1964 after years of intense lobbying by a group of Hamilton natives who decided to establish a such kind of university in their hometown. Initially, the facilities were small, but in early 1965 the new building was officially inaugurated by the then Governor-General, Sir Bernard Ferguson. The university has always had a close relationship with its neighboring Teachers, Colleges and has paved the way for others by becoming the first New Zealand University to merge with its local College's teachers.

Benefits of University of Waikato New Zealand Scholarships:

The sole aim of University of Waikato scholarships for the incoming undergraduate students is to help them so that they can concentrate better on their studies. For this purpose, a handsome amount would be awarded to the selected students to let off their financial problems. The value of the scholarship is Up to NZD$20,000 and it will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition fees for that program that they have chosen. The scholarships are for Undergraduate, Postgraduate (Taught) students. 

Moreover, The scholarship is not transferrable. The university will transfer the amount of scholarship to the student’s tuition fees.

You must have to keep in mind the following conditions/criteria in order to apply for the University of Waikato Scholarships.

Other Requirements:

  1. Applicants must have citizenship of the above-listed countries
  2. Applicants should not be currently enrolled at the University of Waikato  
  3. Applicants should be applying for the first time in undergraduate or postgraduate studies at the University of Waikato
  4. Applicants should not a domestic students of New Zealand
  5. For applying for undergraduate scholarships, applicants should have a High school certificate
  6. For applying for Masters scholarships, Applicants should have a bachelor degree certificate
  7. For applying for a doctoral degree. Applicants should have a master degree certificate

 

Selection Process and Panel:

  1. The scholarships would be given purely on academic merit bases and also potential to become global ambassadors for the University of Waikato would be considered
  2. Applications will be ranked by grade point average by the Selection Panel
  3. The decision of the selection panel would be considered final
