Eligibility Criteria:

Refugee:  Someone who is forced to leave their country because of prejudice because of their race, religion, ethnicity, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Refugee experiences can include harassment, intimidation, kidnapping or violence.

Asylee: A person who is already in the United States and has formal legal recognition as an asylee to the United States Government because of his or her race, religion, ethnicity, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group in his or her own country.

Asylum Seeker: A person who is already in the United States with refugee status and is looking for a safe place. But he/she has legal recognition as an asylee from the United States. 

Temporary Protected Status (TPS):  Citizens of some countries are granted temporary immigration status, facing difficulties that make it unsafe for their residency to become homeless.

Internally Displaced Persons (IDP):  International standards for individuals or groups who are forced to flee or leave their homes, especially in armed conflict or its effects, incidents of general violence, human rights violations or man-made disasters.

How to apply for Columbia University US Scholarships:

There different steps to apply for Columbia University US Scholarships.  To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must apply and be accepted from one of the degree programs that are given above.  (The rules and criteria for applying for a scholarship are generally the same for admission, and students cannot receive a scholarship if they were not previously accepted into the Columbia Degree Program.)

Each school and degree program has its own acceptance requirements and application date. Students will only be considered for a scholarship if they are accepted into the degree program for which they applied. Students would be informed about the scholarship only after degree admissions decisions are made. Students will be notified of the scholarship only after the decision to enter the degree.
